Although earwax serves a purpose to trap and protect the ear from minute particles, excess build up can cause a reduction in hearing ability, dizziness and earache. For some, removal is a regular occurrence and – perplexingly – from one ear only.
Other reasons for wax build up can be due to narrow, hairy and oddly shaped ear canals and as we age, the natural progression of wax from the ears slows down. Dry flaky skin conditions are another contributor as much as particles from working in a dusty environment and whilst the use of hearing aids and head-phones are a necessity, objects that tend to push earwax deeper should be avoided.
